These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Askbuc Security Scanner desktop application and associated web dashboard (collectively, the "Service") provided by Askbuc, Inc. ("Askbuc," "we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

The Askbuc Security Scanner is a free security scanning tool for Windows that analyzes running processes, network connections, and startup programs on your computer. The Service includes a desktop application for local scanning and an optional web dashboard for viewing scan history, AI-powered explanations, and PDF reports.

3. Use of the Service

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to scan systems you do not own or have authorization to scan
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service
  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers or systems
  • Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the Service without our written consent

4. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. ASKBUC DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL DETECT ALL SECURITY THREATS, THAT SCAN RESULTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

5. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ASKBUC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. IN NO EVENT SHALL ASKBUC'S TOTAL LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE (WHICH IS $0 FOR THE FREE VERSION).

6. AI-Generated Content

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate threat explanations and remediation suggestions. AI-generated content is provided for informational purposes only and should not be considered professional cybersecurity advice. Always consult a qualified IT professional before taking action on critical security findings.

7. Remediation Commands

The Service may suggest Windows commands for remediating detected threats. These commands are provided as guidance only. Executing system commands can affect your computer's functionality. Askbuc is not responsible for any damage resulting from the execution of suggested remediation commands. Always back up your system before making changes.

8. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the web dashboard at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. You may delete your account at any time through the dashboard settings.

9. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Askbuc, Inc. and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Lake County, Indiana.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
