Make the security boundaries explicit.
Security works better when the client, IT provider and specialist services know which controls and decisions each owns.

When this helps
Overlapping tools and vendors can leave identity, email, backups and incident decisions without clear operational accountability.
The work
Access and privileged-role review, endpoint and email-control coordination, backup responsibility, security exceptions and escalation planning.
What the engagement produces
A security responsibility map, selected control evidence and a prioritized improvement register for covered services.
How it starts
Review current agreements, tools and systems. Identify authority, service windows and the controls included in the selected plan.
Clear scope before commitment
No website description means all controls are included in every plan. MDR, forensics, compliance review and specialist testing are separate where not expressly contracted.
Ongoing security work with named responsibilities
For organizations that need controls maintained—not just findings reported—AskBuc defines the covered assets, control owners, review cadence, and escalation path with your team or existing provider. The initial review can examine identity, patching, endpoint coverage, logging, applicable email protection, and recovery dependencies. An installed management agent alone is not evidence of active threat protection.
Within the agreement, implementation can include routine approved corrections, policy maintenance, coverage checks, and follow-up on recurring findings. Deliverables can include dated control-status records, exceptions, change records, and verification evidence, with clear ownership for unresolved work.
Separate operating work from major remediation
Scheduled reviews and routine fixes can be included in the contracted operating scope. Substantial inherited gaps, new security deployments, major migrations, and redesigns require an explicit project scope unless already included. Initial remediation engineering and ongoing management are distinct engagements; neither automatically includes the other.
Use the security hub to compare workstreams, or cyber-insurance readiness for questionnaire and evidence support. Reports distinguish verified controls, exceptions, and untested areas; technical verification is not an external reviewer's acceptance. Response coverage, third-party costs, and delivery schedules are defined in the agreement—not assumed from the service name.
Useful checklists for the next decision.
These public resources are available to review before an assessment. They do not replace a scoped engagement or written agreement.
